LENTEN MIDDAY PRAYER 1
Hymn:
Bless the Lord, my soul and bless God’s holy name.
Bless the Lord my soul, who leads me into life.

We say the Antiphon together:
O my Strength, it is to you whom I turn,
for you, O God, are my stronghold,
the God who shows me love

From Psalm 102  (each side of the Congregation says alternate verses)
My soul give thanks to the Lord
All my being bless his holy name.
My soul give thanks to the Lord
and never forget all his blessings

It is he who forgives all your guilt,
who heals every one of your ills,
who redeems your life from the grave
who crowns you with love and compassion.

The Lord is compassion and love
slow to anger and rich in mercy.
He does not treat us according to our sins
nor repay us according to our faults

For as the heavens are high above the earth
so strong is his love for those who fear him.
As far as the east is from the west
so far does he remove our sins.

Psalm 130
O Lord, my heart is not proud
nor haughty my eyes.
I have not gone after things too great
nor marvels beyond me

Truly, I have set my soul
in silence and peace.
A weaned child on its mother’s breast
even so is my soul.

O Israel, hope in the Lord
both now and forever.

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit
As it was in the beginning, is now and ever shall be,
world without end. Amen.

We say the Antiphon together:
O my Strength, it is to you whom I turn,
for you, O God, are my stronghold,
the God who shows me love

Scripture Reading:
[Galatians 6:9-10] Let us never grow tired of doing good; for if we do not give up,
we shall have our harvest in due time. So then, as long as we have the opportunity let all our actions be for the good of everybody, and especially of those who belong to the household of the faith.

A time for silence

Our Father

Concluding Prayer:
Turn our hearts to yourself Eternal Father,
so that, always seeking what is truly essential
and devoting ourselves to works of charity,
we may worship you in spirit and in truth.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord. Amen

LENTEN MIDDAY PRAYER 2

Opening Song:
To whom shall we go, you alone are life eternal,
To whom shall we go, loving Saviour lead us.

from Psalm 50
[we will pray this, one verse led by those on one side of the church,
the next verse, in italics, lead by the other side]

Have mercy on me, God, in your kindness.
In your compassion blot out my offence.
O wash me more and more from my guilt
and cleanse me from my sin.

My offences truly I know them;
my sin is always before me.
Against you, you alone, have I sinned;
what is evil in your sight I have done.

Indeed you love truth in the heart;
then in the secret of my heart teach me wisdom.
O purify me, then I shall be clean;
O wash me, I shall be whiter than snow.

A pure heart create for me, O God,
put a steadfast spirit within me.
Do not cast me away from your presence,
nor deprive me of your holy spirit.

Give me again the joy of your help;
with a spirit of fervour sustain me,
that I may teach transgressors your ways
and sinners may return to you.

O rescue me, God, my helper,
and my tongue shall ring out your goodness.
O Lord, open my lips
and my mouth shall declare your praise.

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit;
as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be
world without end. Amen

Scripture Reading: Revelations 3:19-20

I reprove and train those whom I love; so repent in real earnest.
Look I am standing at the door, knocking.
If one of you hears me calling and opens the door,
I will come in to share a meal at that person’s side.

Intercessions:
Blessed be Christ our Saviour. In Him, all things are renewed.
Let us pray in living hope:

Let us work with you to fill the world with justice, love and peace.
Grant that we may put aside our apathy; help us to recognize with joy the strength you give us.
We lift up to you all those who are sick or troubled in any way. May we embody your care for them.
We remember our beloved dead. Grant them the glory of the resurrection.

Our Father…

Concluding Prayer:
All pray together:
Turn our hearts to you, eternal Father,
so that always seeking your face,
and devoting ourselves to acts of loving kindness,
we may worship you in spirit and in truth.
We make our prayer through Christ our Lord.
Amen.
