End Poverty Service

Through reflections and readings prepared by the Part-Time Chaplaincy Students of DCU and the music of the Dublin Diocesan Music Group those who gather will take time to face the challenge of this issue which is both global and local and to celebrate the values of the kingdom of simplicity proclaimed by Jesus, the friend of the poor. The International Day for the Eradication of Poverty has been observed since 1993, when the UN General Assembly chose this day to promote awareness of the need to eradicate global poverty. Pope Francis has underlined the importance of the day, most notably its aim to encourage the international community to “eliminate extreme poverty and discrimination”, and to ensure that all global citizens are able to “fully exercise their fundamental rights”.
