EUCHARISTIC HOUR 11 May 2009
Processional Song O Sacrament Most Holy (Arr. Ian Callanan)
All sing: O Sacrament most holy, O Sacrament divine All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
I am the bread of life, come down from heav’n come down to bring life. All who eat this bread, will never hunger again.
All sing: O Sacrament most holy, O Sacrament divine All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
I am the wine of hope, poured out for you, for life renewed. All who drink this cup, will never thirst again.
All sing: O Sacrament most holy, O Sacrament divine All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
I am the resurrection, the life for all who follow my way. All who believe in me, will never die but live.
All sing: O Sacrament most holy, O Sacrament divine All praise and all thanksgiving be every moment thine.
Invitation to Adoration
Song Come Adore This Wondrous Presence (Ronan McDonagh)
Come adore this wondrous presence, bow to Christ the source of grace. Here is kept the ancient promise of God’s earthly dwelling place. Sight is blind before God’s glory, faith alone may see his face.
Glory be to God the Father, praise to his eternal Son. Adoration to the Spirit, bond of love, in Godhead one. Blest be God by all creation, joyously while ages run, Amen.
Reading Luke 9:11-17 Jesus made the crowds welcome and talked to them about the kingdom of God; and he cured those who were in need of healing. It was late afternoon when the Twelve came to him and said, ‘Send the people away, they can go to the villages and farms round about to find lodging and food; for we are in a lonely place here.’ He replied, ‘Give them something to eat yourselves.’ But they said, ‘We have no more than five loaves and two fish, unless we are to go ourselves and buy food for all these people.’. For there were about five thousand men. But he said to his disciples, ‘Get them to sit down in parties of about fifty.’ They did so and made them all sit down. Then he took the five loaves and the two fish, raised his eyes to heaven and said the blessing over them; then he broke them and handed them to his disciples to distribute among the crowd. They all ate as much as they wanted, and when the scraps remaining were collected they filled twelve baskets. Reflection We have so much in life. Sometimes we underestimate what we have to share with others. We hold back when we should generously give. We have so much to be grateful for.
Song How Can I Repay? (Liam Lawton)
All sing: How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me
I will call, I will call, on the Lord’s own name, My vows to the Lord, I will fulfill. I will call, I will call, On the Lord’s own name. O precious indeed, in the eyes of the Lord Is the love of his faithful one.
All sing: How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me How can I repay the Lord for his goodness to me
O Lord my God, your servant am I. You have loosened my bonds. O Lord, my God your servant am I. In thanks and in praise, a sacrifice I make I will call on the Lord’s own name.
Reflection A Íosa Mhilis
Sweet Jesus, My tongue is no fit seat for you, My heart is no fit lodging; But only give me your blessedness And let it remain with me forever.
Song A Íosa Mhilis (Pat Ahern)

Reflection
The Catechism of the Catholic Church tells us that the Sancta sanctis! ("Gods holy gifts for Gods holy people") is proclaimed by the celebrant in most Eastern liturgies during the elevation of the holy Gifts before the distribution of communion. The faithful (sancti) are fed by Christs holy body and blood (sancta) to grow in the communion of the Holy Spirit (koinonia) and to communicate it to the world. The real challenge is to move from the table of nourishment and comfort to the reality of the world in which we live. Koinonia – that building up of a community that cares is easier said than done. It takes sacrifice, self-denial, effort, discomfort and pain. The Eucharist we receive is rooted in the supreme sacrifice of Christ let’s get back to the source.
Song God’s Holy Gifts (Bernard Sexton)
All sing: God’s holy gifts for God’s holy people Draw near to receive them with praise and thanksgiving.
Glorify the Lord with me, together let us praise God’s name.
Taste and see that the Lord is good; Blest are they who hope in God.
I will bless the Lord at all times, God’s praises are always on my lips.
Prayer For the nourishment you give us All say: We give you praise and thanks For the strength you offer us All say: We give you praise and thanks For the goodness you show us All say: We give you praise and thanks For your presence in times of crisis All say: We give you praise and thanks For the generosity of your love All say: We give you praise and thanks For the gift of your forgiveness All say: We give you praise and thanks
Reading Matt 18:20 ‘I tell you solemnly once again, if two of you on earth agree to ask anything at all, it will be granted to you by my Father in heaven. For where two or three meet in my name, I shall be there with them.’
Song Where Two or Three Are Gathered (Liam Lawton) Here in the Bread that is broken, Here in the Cup that is poured. Here in the Word that is spoken. Jesus Christ is Lord.
Here where the poor find their treasure Here where the greatest are least. Come find a love beyond measure In this heav’nly feast.
Where two or three are gathered, Gathered in my name I come with words of comfort To ease your hurt and shame.
Where two or three are gathered I am there as well Inviting my disciples In perfect love to dwell.
Where two or three are gathered I am there with you I lead you into freedom My path is safe and true.
Where two or three are gathered There I will remain To offer new beginnings Where peace and justice reign.
Reading 1 Corinthians 11:23-26
This is what I received from the Lord, and in turn passed on to you: that on the same night that he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread, and thanked God for it and broke it, and he said, ‘This is my body, which is for you; do this as a memorial of me.’ In the same way he took the cup after supper, and said, ‘This cup is the new covenant in my blood. Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.’ Until the Lord comes, therefore, every time you eat this bread and drink this cup, you are proclaiming his death.
Prayer You have conquered death All say: We proclaim your death and resurrection You have triumphed over evil All say: We proclaim your death and resurrection You are light in the darkness All say: We proclaim your death and resurrection You are hope for the future All say: We proclaim your death and resurrection You are the source of new life
Song Take and Eat (Ian Callanan) All sing: Take and eat, this is my body, Take and drink this cup of life. This living sign of God will shine And dwell within your heart.
Come to me all you who labour, And I will give you rest. Lay your burdens upon me; My yoke is light. I am strength for the weary, New sight for the blind.
Reflection Críost Liom Críost liom, Críost romham, Críost i mo dhiaidh, Críost istigh ionam, Críost fúm, Críost os mo chionn, Críost ar mo lámh dheas, Críost ar mo lámh chlé, Críost i mo lúi dom, Críost i mo sheasamh dom, Críost i gcrói gach duine atá ag cuimhneamh orm, Críost i mbéal gach duine a labhráionn lom, Críost i ngach súil a fhéachann orm, Críost i ngach cluas a éisteann liom.
Incensation
Song St. Patrick’s Breastplate (John O’Keefe) Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ before me today. Christ be behind me, Christ to win me, Christ to guide me on my way. Christ in hearts of all that love me, Christ in mouth of friend and stranger. Christ beneath me, Christ above me, Christ be with me today. Christ in resting, Christ in rising, Christ the Lord of my life. Christ in quiet, Christ in danger, Christ my shield in the strife. Christ in ev’ry heart that is broken, Chris in ev’ry word as it’s spoken. Christ be with me, Christ within me, Christ before me today.
Reading Luke 24:28-30 When they drew near to the village to which they were going, he made as if to go on; but they pressed him to stay with them. ’It is nearly evening’ they said ‘and the day is almost over’. So he went in to stay with them.
Reflection
That first evening with the two disciples was only the beginning. Little did they think that the journey to Emmaus which started with feelings of hopelessness would be such an eye-opener and a tonic. It was only the beginning when they recognised the Risen Jesus at the ‘breaking of the bread’. For over 2000 years Christians around the world have done the same. As we conclude our prayer this evening, help us to recognise Jesus in each other and offer the same respect and reverence that we reserve for his wondrous presence in the Blessed Sacrament.
Prayer When we are feeling hopeless and lost All say: Remain with us, Lord When we are blind to our own goodness All say: Remain with us, Lord When we feel abandoned and alone All say: Remain with us, Lord When we face difficult decisions All say: Remain with us, Lord When we are ill or worried All say: Remain with us, Lord When we others let us down All say: Remain with us, Lord
Divine Praises Blessed be God. Blessed be His Holy Name. Blessed be Jesus Christ, true God and true man. Blessed be the Name of Jesus. Blessed be His Most Sacred Heart. Blessed be His Most Precious Blood. Blessed be Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament of the Altar. Blessed be the Holy Spirit, the Paraclete. Blessed be the great Mother of God, Mary most holy. Blessed be her holy and Immaculate Conception. Blessed be her glorious Assumption. Blessed be the name of Mary, Virgin and Mother. Blessed be St. Joseph, her most chaste spouse. Blessed be God in His angels and in His Saints. Benediction
Final Song Remain With Us, Lord (Patrice O’Connor)
All sing; Remain with us, Lord we pray you, Alleluia.
